Seldom I am able to manage to Album) to the whole album in one run, this is because of the following reasons: At first it seemed that this album is my least favourite Heaven Shall Burn album because it feels too different for me because I've started far too late in their discography with "Antigone" and the grand "Deaf to Our Prayers". It is not that "Asunder" differs that much from these two albums, but especially "Deaf to Our Prayers" is a class of its own and way more professional so "Asunder" loses ground in every category.

The second reason is the vocabulary. The lyrics of Heaven Shall Burn were ever very political and speak about actual social issues, but in the vocabulary was not that good as on later albums. In fact the lyrics have a horrible sentence structure so it could be very difficult to decipher them, on some songs even the meaning is unclear.

It is not that the lyrics are complete garbage but they seem to struggle with the english tongue at this very early point of their career. Thankfully this point changed later and since then it is a pleasure to read the lyrics of Heaven Shall Burn. It pains me to write the following lines, but one of the main reasons why "Asunder" is my least favourite Heaven Shall Burn album is in fact: Marcus Bishoff! Don't get me wrong, I love this guy, he is the best vocalist this band can have because he fits perfectly.

But on "Asunder" he just sounds a little too shrieky. I hope I don't scare a potential new Heaven Shall Burn listener with this review, because everyone who is interested in german metal, or how the masses call it: teutonic metal, should Betrayed Again - Heaven Shall Burn - Asunder (CD Heaven Shall Burn a listen.

These guys evolved beautifully and grew up to a band beyond all doubt in my humble opinion. Especially Marcus Bischoff transforms into a beast of a vocalist, but on "Asunder" he sounds strange and takes some getting used to for my taste, although one can clearly hear who screams in the microphone there is room for improvement nontheless.

On the other hand it is a pleasure to hear how great Heaven Shall Burn evolved over the years, you can hear the musical evolution on the next album "Whatever It May Take"it is a real quantum leap. I know, all these lines seem to reek of dissatisfaction and disappointment and could scare any new listener who want to give his time for the music of Heaven Shall Burn.

If you, who are reading this, have not yet heard an Heaven Shall Burn album and are considering investing your time and money in an album, then I will give you some advice: Please do it, it is worth it!

Even if "Asunder" is not a masterpiece it is nonetheless a cool album, and a sign of things to come.

The first LP proper from Germany's Heaven Shall Burn, s Asunder finds the angry quintet in the throes of refining their uncontained aggression into somewhat more memorable songs. These, for the most part, still need plenty of work, but the band's musicianship is already top-notch, forging a unified barrage that usually manages to carry them through on intensity and commitment alone.
